Event-driven geospatial information systems

Develop an event-driven service-oriented GIS infrastructure, that takes events from different sources including sensors, web services, applications and databases; processes spatial and non-spatial events together with external geographic data; and notifies event subscribers according to their subscriptions (possibly “spatially-enabled”), who in turn invoke proper actions.

Urban solar energy modeling

Develop easy-to-use, integrated urban solar energy modeling and demonstration techniques to provide the capability for non-expert users to easily model solar energy potential on residential/industrial building rooftops and link it to energy usage data for better public awareness, understanding of solar potential and engagement into current feed-in-tariff programs, in collaboration with Woodstock Hydro, Inc.

Moving object data processing and knowledge discovery

Develop cost-effective techniques for extracting/updating road network data (e.g., road centerlines, number of lanes, ramps, etc.) using Global positioning system (GPS) data crowdsourced through smart phones.

GeoWeb and dynamic geospatial web services

Develop a spatio-temporal database for managing historial sea ice data (e.g., chart data, images, etc.) for supporting basic web-based sea ice data discovery, analysis and visualization. The project is led by the Canadian Ice Service (CIS) with reserachers from Ryerson University, Laval University and University of Waterloo.
